Although most people may go to Las Vegas just to gamble, Las Vegas has a lot more to offer. There are several places that are family friendly. There are also several attractions for families to enjoy along with shopping, cool restaurants, and shows that are family friendly. I could not list all of them in one blog, so I picked some from my most recent visit.
M&M’s World Store
The M&M’s World Store is a must see for kids and adults alike. This store is 4 stories of M&M heaven. You can find everything M&M from collectibles to backpacks to dishes and of course M&M’s in a variety of colors. You can even customize your own M&M’s with words and pictures. There are several images to choose from including Las Vegas images, sports images, holiday images, and wedding images. You can even choose what colors you want to print your custom M&M’s on. It is my favorite thing to do when I visit. There is also a 3D movie on the 3rd floor which is free for everyone and has several showings all day long. For my fellow NASCAR fans, the top floor is dedicated to all M&M things NASCAR including a replica of Kyle Busch’s #18 race car.
Walking down the strip it is hard to miss the giant Coke bottle built in the side of the building. This is the entrance to the Coca-Cola Store. Of course they have clothes and collectibles including several items with the cuddly Coke bear. You can even get a picture with the bear at certain times. My favorite part of this store though is the second story cafe. You can get a taste of Coke from around the world. You can get a tray of 16 different countries and a tray of 8 cream sodas. We had more fun than the kids tasting all of the flavors. Some are good, and some are not so good depending on your taste. All are fun. What’s really cool is every time I’ve visited no matter what time of year they have Christmas items for sale! You can buy gifts any time.
Terry Fator Show
The Mirage has many shows, but the Terry Fator Show is one of the cleanest shows. It has music and comedy and it stays family friendly. Terry Fator does music impersonations using puppets. He does all genres of music: female and male. He has a live band which makes it more authentic to me. He even throws his voice. The songs are well known classics or parodies. In between songs he has conversations with the puppets which are very funny. I was entertained throughout the whole show. I wasn’t ready for it to end when it was over. He also donates the proceeds of his gift store sales to a charity foundation to supports military families. I would definitely see this show again.
There are several hotels and resorts in Vegas and most of them have a gimmick. I have tried to tour as many as I can while visiting but it is a daunting task as some of you may know. This visit I was able to spend some time in the Mirage since we were seeing the Terry Fator Show there. They do have a casino of course, but what I liked is all of the other amenities and activities they offer. They have several different shows you can choose from. They also have several restaurants and cafes. There is even a shopping mall inside of it. The check-in desk even has a huge aquarium behind it. I was trying to look everywhere at once to see everything. They also have Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat where you can explore and learn about these wonderful creatures. They even have behind-the-scenes tours so you can have a more up close and personal encounter with the dolphins. Last but not least don’t forget about the Volcano show. This is free to anyone walking by. Shows start at 8:00 nightly. I love the fire show set to music, and if you don’t mind dinner and a show there is a restaurant across the street that has two window tables on the second level with a perfect view of the volcanoes. You can’t hear the music very well and you have to get there early, but it was worth it to be able to sit and watch while eating.
The Modern Vegan
My friend and I decided to try something different this visit, so we found this wonderful little restaurant close to the Thomas & Mack Center. The Modern Vegan has several menu options that are 100% plant based. My friend decided on one of the burgers while I had a BLAT. So the burgers are made with a huge mushroom head as the patty. There are several options for these burgers to choose from. I am not fond of mushrooms, so I decided on the bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato sandwich. The bacon was not from a pig but it tasted just as good. It had more of a turkey bacon flavor without fat. I was assured that there was no meat in it; however, I did not ask how it was made. The food was really good. We had sweet potato fries as a side, and they were delicious. The atmosphere was very relaxed although modern and they had the bar separated from the dining room. Although you may never get your child to eat the food, it was definitely family friendly. I enjoyed trying something new.
I know there are more places to visit in Las Vegas that are family friendly, but these are some of my favorites. I usually go at least once per year and try to see something new along with my favorites. I just want all the families and adults that like good clean fun to know there is more to Vegas than you think.
